Google is working on the development of an all-new AI-based assistant for the upcoming Pixel 10 phone, to be developed for providing a more tailored experience according to how one uses the device. The new AI-driven smart assistant named Pixel Sense will be developed for Google’s upcoming lineup of Pixel phones, according to internal sources as cited in the tech site, Android Authority. The AI assistant will integrate such applications as Calendar, Chrome, Contacts, Docs, and Photos so that answers become relevant for the particular user, among others. Media would include texts, images, AI-generated content, and screenshots. In addition, Pixel Sense will speed up task and routine completion, adapt according to users’ likes, and provide custom suggestions.
Perhaps, therefore, the most striking difference lies in the fact that the function purportedly processes data on devices itself, hence it can be a lot faster and more privatized. Google has not commented on the development so far. Google’s Pixel 10 is expected to arrive sometime in late August with a new modem, a more powerful chipset, and Android 16. It is against this backdrop that tech companies are experimenting with making AI assistants more conversational and capable of handling everyday tasks. In this respect, it was Amazon that last week came up with a more conversational form of its longtime service, Alexa Plus, which takes into account generative AI.
However, this was not always smooth sailing. Apple has reportedly run into problems with the launch of the new version of Siri, largely due to the software bugs, which may place it at a serious disadvantage relative to its competitors like Google and OpenAI, which continue to develop their intelligent assistants. Ramon Llamas, a research director at market research firm IDC, stated that AI developments for the past 18 months have been focused on improving and accelerating everything they can. He further noted that Pixel Sense would really take this to the next level, with “no need for a new phone — just a phone that gets you to do.” “Pixel Sense would build on Google’s other services and applications, putting it in an excellent position to bring that kind of functionality to its users,” he added. “This positions Pixel Sense not only as a smart assistant, but also your personal concierge to track what you do, curate that information, and serve it up with relevant and personalized data options that you can then act upon.”
It isn’t Google’s first time to try enhancing Google Assistant. There is said to have been an unreleased lock-screen tool known as At a Glance that was supposed to accompany a smarter AI assistant named Pixie with the Pixel 9. Pixie is stated to be a powered-up, revised version of what is currently called Pixel Sense. Alongside these changes in the products is Google also bringing out new AI-powered tools. Just last week, Pixel users can create AI-generated images of people in the photos, according to an update from Google for Pixel Studio. Also, there will be a live video and screen sharing feature on Gemini Live, which allows people to interact directly with the Gemini chatbot and to have an AI feature to catch scam robocalls.
