X.A.I. presented its latest chatbot on Tuesday, Grok 3, which the tech billionaire has termed “the most powerful AI on Earth.” Musk’s xA.I. tech company introduced the Grok 3 chatbot on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The launch event, held on February 17, 2025, was aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of Grok 3, which included advanced reasoning, text-to-video conversion, and self-correction mechanisms.

Musk explained the meaning of the name “Grok” at the launch event. According to him, the word “grok” comes from Robert Heinlein’s science fiction novel “Stranger in a Strange Land.” In the novel, the word “grok,” spoken by a Martian character, implies understanding something thoroughly and completely. Musk emphasized that the term implies understanding to a great depth and one of the most important qualities of Grok 3.
Musk and the xAI team claimed that Grok 3 is “an order of magnitude more capable” than Grok 2 released in August 2024. xAI shared benchmark comparisons, displaying that Grok 3 outperformed some of the biggest names in AI, including Google’s Gemini 2 Pro, DeepSeek V3, and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, especially in the fields of science, coding, and mathematics.
With an impressive compliment, Musk called Grok 3 “scary smart.” He said: “Sometimes I think Grok 3 is really scary smart.” This chatbot is to run on xAI’s Colossus supercomputer, which has trained AI models with over 100,000 Nvidia GPU hours. He added that the system was built within eight months.
Apart from this, Grok-3 showed some cool edge in creativity-being able to think up a totally new game combining Tetris and Puyo Puyo. Grok-3 has been launched for X premium+ users, promising unrivaled reasoning, game design, and overall performance.
Elon Musk advised the users to update their X app in order to witness the features in their full extent efficiently as the company announced. He stated, “For the super fans who want the highest level of capability with the earliest access to new features, we are launching a separate subscription called Super Grok. This will be available with the Grok app and on our new website, grok.com.”
“If you’re looking for a more polished version, it might be worth waiting a week, but expect improvements every day. We’re also working on a voice interaction feature so you can have a conversational experience. I tried it earlier today, and it’s working pretty well, though it still needs some polish. The goal is to make it so you can talk to it just like you would a person. I think it’s going to be one of the best experiences with Grok3, but that should be about a week away,” Elon Musk added. xAI-based Grok 3 also means better capabilities-the training process was modified externally to hardware improvements. This enabled synthetic datasets, self-correction, and reinforcement learning through the implementation of the latter to improve the efficiency of Grok.
